The Space Copenhagen Collection for Mater is a versatile collection of contemporary Danish design with classic roots. The design studio was founded by Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou around the ethos of and belief in slow aesthetic that centers quality and longevity. The collection of interiors designed for Mater express the poetic modernism that harmonizes with the main driving force behind the overall design approach of Space Copenhagen.
Space Copenhagen is especially known for their creative excellence. The designs strike the balance between Scandinavian minimalism and solid, decorative craftsmanship.
The solid frames used in the collection of chairs and tables are made of FSC certified oak or beech wood, sustainably sourced from well-managed forests, designed to support the Goals "Life on Land" (SDGs 15), "Responsible Consumption and Production" (SDGs 12) and "Partnership for the Goals" (SDGs 17.
The High Stool Collections
“The High Stool has a very special place in our hearts as it was the first piece of furniture we got into production. We actually designed it for a small jewelry concept store in Copenhagen a few years before we launched it with Mater.” – Space Copenhagen
The Mater High Stool and Low Stool launched in 2009 is regarded as a New Danish Classic. With its organic yet minimalistic style, this stool is suitable for both residential and commercial use. The High Stool is now a centerpiece in many hotels, bars and restaurants around the world creating sculptural elegance and a comfortable sitting experience all at once.
The High Stool Backrest
The High Stool Backrest builds on High Stool’s beautifully fluid, sculptural and archetypal character - now with the addition of a a generous rounded backrest. The backrest and seat are upholstered with durable leather that gives the stool an exclusive aesthetically pleasing look and high comfort. The High Stool Backrest is manufactured and assembled with old crafts traditions with care for people and the planet.
The Dining Chair
When designing The Dining Chair, Space Copenhagen explored classic, simple and sculptural motifs. The collection of dining chairs is designed to meet the need of a comfortable dining chair with simple elements and a solid frame. As with the High Stool Backrest, The Dining Chair comes with a rounded backrest but with a larger seat and wider supporting back. The Dining Chair is available in solid oak or beech wood with a backrest steam bent in veneer and leather upholstery.
The Lounge Chair
The Lounge Chair is a new centerpiece of elegance designed for residential and hospitality. The design simply represents a new way of lounging.

The Lounge Chair is decorative from every angle and reveals the unique nature of the material used. The design has the ability to easily adapt into various interior design options with its aesthetically pleasing shape, sustainable materials and longevity in time and durability. The backrest and seat are larger than The Dining Chair and generously rounded for a heightened sense of comfort which outweighs the need for armrests. The seats and backrests are upholstered in a soft and durable leather.
