Through years of research and testing, we invented Matek™
The unique material enable us to make furniture of waste materials by combining fibre with a binder.
Coffee bean shells, extracted during the roasting process, are an example of fibre material. Sawdust from wood production is another. The binder material is made from plastic waste or a plastic-based alternative.
The mix of materials results in a unique composite suitable for press moulding - a well-known technique in the furniture industry.

Nine unique Matek™ material blends
Matek™ offers an unprecedented unique tactility and materiality with features that resemble timeless materials like stone, terrazzo, or even marble.
The material is water-repellent and highly durable, and we consider it as a material in line with wood, stone or plastic.
We are continuously exploring and testing new materials to use with our Matek™ technology. At the moment, we operate with five blends
consisting of a mix of fibre and plastic waste materials. Along with four Bio Matek™ blends made with bio-based PLA as the binder material.
Bio Matek™
In 2024, after testing and development, we began using bio-based PLA (polylactic acid) as the binder in Bio Matek™.
The PLA is made from a renewable feedstock, sugarcane, instead of fossil resources. Sugar extracted from the cane and fermented to produce the PLA.
Bio Matek™ is biodegradable in industrial composting facilities inline with ISO14855 standards (certified ultimate aerobic biodegradation).
Bio Matek™ has the same durability and water-repellent properties as our other Matek™ variants.

Recycling electronic waste into Matek™

Electronic waste, also known as e-waste, is one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the world. Due to our consumption habits, large volumes end up in landfills each year.
However, properly collected and sorted plastic parts from electronic equipment such as computers, household appliances, displays, refrigerators, etc., can be recycled and kept in use instead of being incinerated.
In 2023, we shifted our Matek production to primarily using e-waste as the binder material.
