Wood
Lacquered or stained wood
Lacquered or stained wood offers a strong surface, it’s easy to clean, and requires little maintenance.
For daily care, it is recommended to dust the furniture with a soft cloth. The product can also be cleaned with a soft cloth wrung in a mild solution of lukewarm water and a universal cleaning detergent. Always follow the wood grains and dry with a soft dry cloth immediately afterwards.
Avoid using abrasive and aggressive cleaning detergents, as this will damage the surface of the wood treatment. Avoid placing wooden furniture in direct sunlight, excessive heat, or humidity over longer periods of time, as this can interfere with the appearance of the wood.
We always recommend using trivets under hot objects, such as coffee pots and cups, to prevent the lacquer or stain from reacting to the heat.

Soaped wood
Soaped wood requires gentle and daily care, to avoid permanent stains. The furniture is best cleaned with a damp, soft, lint-free cloth.
In case of more resistant stains or scratches, lightly sand the surface with sandpaper grade 220 or 240. Then wipe off with a dry soft cloth and apply a new layer of soap following the wood grains. Always follow the instructions carefully for the product purchased for retreatment.

Recycled Material
Matek®
Matek™
The Matek™ material is made from a mix of recycled fibre and plastic waste. It offers a strong, durable surface that is easy to clean and requires very little maintenance.
For daily care, it is recommended to dust the surface with a soft cloth. The surface can be cleaned with a soft cloth wrung out in a mild solution of lukewarm water and a universal cleaning detergent. Avoid using abrasive cleaning agents and harsh detergents, as these may damage the surface.
Avoid placing Matek™ furniture in direct sunlight, excessive heat, or humidity over longer periods of time, as this can affect the appearance of the material. For tabletops, we always recommend using trivets under hot objects, such as coffee pots and cups, to prevent damage to the surface.
As Matek™ furniture is made from a blend of natural materials, each piece is unique, and its appearance may vary from item to item. A slight change in colour over the years is also to be expected. Matek™ furniture also has a distinct smell when first unpacked, but this will fade after a few days of use.
Recycled plastics
Our recycled plastics offer a strong durable surface. It is easy to clean and requires very little maintenance. The plastic surface can be cleaned with a soft cloth wrung in lukewarm water.
Avoid contact with sharp objects that can scratch or damage the surface of the material. Furniture made from recycled plastic should not be placed outside in temperatures below -5°C, as this may cause the material to splinter.
Leather
Leather is a natural material that, with proper care, will develop a beautiful patina
over time. Its appearance naturally varies from hide to hide, giving each piece a
unique character.
To ensure its long-lasting appeal, regular cleaning with a soft microfiber cloth is
recommended. Avoid soaking the leather with any substances and use a clean, dry cloth to absorb any spills immediately.
Keep the leather away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and sharp objects to prevent fading, drying, or scratching. Refrain from applying any chemical products, including saddle soap, leather cleaners, or household cleaners, as these can damage the material.
For a more thorough cleaning of leather use soap foam as directed by our supplier Sorensen leather: https://sorensenleather.com/collections/care/ - especially for Suede and Nubuck – avoid any contact with water liquids or creams. Suede and Nubuck should only be cleaned with a soft brush vacuum attachment or dry microfiber cloth.
Textile
Regular cleaning is essential to keep upholstery textiles looking their best and to extend their lifespan. Dust and dirt can degrade the fabric and diminish its fire-retardant properties. Ideally, vacuum the upholstery every week to maintain its appearance and quality.
For spills and stains, prompt action is key to preventing permanent marks, though completestain removal cannot be guaranteed. Begin by scraping off any liquids or hardened residues with a spoon or scoop, followed by vacuuming any loose particles before further cleaning. Use an absorbent napkin or cloth to soak up any liquids. For non-greasy stains, carefully dab the area with a lint-free cloth or sponge dampened with warm water.
In commercial settings, professional cleaning is recommended 2–3 times per year, while textiles used in private homes generally require less frequent cleaning.

Aluminum
Polished aluminum
A polished aluminium surface is durable and requires very little maintenance. It is
recommended to use only a soft, dry cloth to clean polished aluminium surfaces; if
necessary, a soft cloth wrung out in lukewarm water may be used carefully.
For large stains, mix 1 tablespoon of cream of tartar with 1 quart of lukewarm water. Apply the mixture to the aluminium with a soft cloth. If needed, gently scrub in a back-and-forth motion with a steel wool pad, avoiding circular motions to prevent an uneven appearance.
Take care not to scrub too hard, as this can scratch the aluminium. Finish by applying a small amount of beeswax to the surface to restore its shine.
Powder coated aluminum
A powder-coated aluminium or steel surface is durable and requires very little maintenance.
It is recommended to use only a soft, dry cloth to clean powder-coated surfaces; however, if more thorough cleaning is needed, a soft cloth wrung out in lukewarm water can be gently applied. Always dry the surface immediately after cleaning with a soft, dry cloth.
Avoid using abrasive cleaning agents or aggressive detergents on powder-coated surfaces, as these may permanently damage the finish. Minor scratches or damages to the surface can lead to corrosion.
Stainless steel
Dust stainless steel products daily using only a soft, dry cloth. Clean stainless steel surfaces only with a detergent specifically designed for stainless steel. Cleaning agents not specifically developed for stainless steel may permanently damage the surface and should always be avoided.
Glass
All glass in the Mater lighting collection is mouth-blown and handcrafted by skilled artisans, giving each piece a unique character. Mouth-blown glass naturally features subtle air bubbles and slight variations in form and thickness. Due to the handmade process, minor differences in colour may also occur between items.
For everyday cleaning, use a soft, dry cloth. If a deeper clean is needed, a soft cloth with standard glass cleaner can be used, followed by drying with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, as these may damage the glass surface.
