The Mater High Stool Backrest, designed by the renowned Danish architecture duo Space Copenhagen, is considered a New Danish Classic. Rooted in classic, simple, and sculptural design motifs, the stool is characterised by an organic yet minimalist expression that makes it ideal for both residential and hospitality settings.

Building on the original High Stool’s archetypal form, Space Copenhagen introduced a generously rounded, upholstered backrest to heighten comfort. Fully supportive and comfortably cushioned, the backrest provides ample support, eliminating the need for armrests.

Crafted from sustainably sourced, FSC®-certified solid oak, the High Stool Backrest features a steam-bent veneer backrest. This version is made in sirka grey lacquered oak and upholstered in Sørensen Leather – Ultra Black, combining responsible material choices with refined comfort and durability.

The High Stool Backrest is offered in two seat heights: 69 cm, recommended for kitchen counters, and 74 cm, ideal for bar tables. The collection is available with click felt gliders upon request.

Care and maintenance ⌵

Lacquered wood

Lacquered wood offers a strong surface, it’s easy to clean, and requires little maintenance.

For daily care, it is recommended to dust the furniture with a soft cloth. The product can also be cleaned with a soft cloth wrung in a mild solution of lukewarm water and a universal cleaning detergent. Always follow the wood grains and dry with a soft dry cloth immediately afterwards.

Avoid using abrasive and aggressive cleaning detergents, as this will damage the surface of the wood treatment. Avoid placing wooden furniture in direct sunlight, excessive heat, or humidity over longer periods of time, as this can interfere with the appearance of the wood.

Leather

Leather is a natural material that, with proper care, will develop a beautiful patina over time. Its appearance naturally varies from hide to hide, giving each piece a unique character.

To ensure its long-lasting appeal, regular cleaning with a soft microfiber cloth is recomeded.

Avoid soaking the leather with any substances and use a clean, dry cloth to absorb any spills immediately. Keep the leather away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and sharp objects to prevent fading, drying, or scratching. Refrain from applying any chemical products, including saddle soap, leather cleaners, or household cleaners, as these can damage the material.
