Ocean Collection

Ocean chairs at Louisiana Museum of Mordern Art

The Ocean Collection fitting perfectly into the beautiful surroundings at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art courtyard.

The Ocean Collection is a reimagined table-and-chair collection, originally designed in 1955 by Jørgen and Nanna Ditzel. Reimagined by Mater in the upcycled fisning nets and ocean waste or upcycled plastic beer kegs from Carlsberg.

Our Ocean Collection is created from discarded fishnets and ocean plastic waste; while enhancing the environment below water, we take a unique Ditzel design from 1955 into a modern age of rethinking design.

The slats are made from discarded fishing nets mixed with recycled hard plastic. One seat contains 960g / 33.8oz ocean plastic waste which leaves a 49 kg CO2 Footprint

Dissassembly
The Ocean products are designed for disassembly, so that the parts can be easily taken apart and reused, when it reaches the end of its useful life.

The design
is simple in form and lightness and is an expression of Nanna Ditzel's precise, practical and playful approach to design.

The material
of recycled fishing nets and marine plastic waste fits perfectly for outdoor use with great durability and minimal maintenance.

Made from discarded fishing nets.
