Carlsberg Group Headquarters

The Carlsberg headquarters is located in Valby Bakke in central Copenhagen, a historic area where the brewery first began making beer in 1847. The four-storey building was designed by Danish studio CF Møller Architects and consists of three wings that house a large atrium, offices, meeting rooms and temporary work stations.

 Address: J. C. Jacobsens Gade 1, 1799 København V

Carlsberg Group's headquater furnished with their own waste

Originally designed and made of wood veneer in 1955 by some of the 20th century's most renowned Danish designers, Jørgen and Nanna Ditzel.
In 2021, we initiated a collab with the Carlsberg brewery and a:gain - a company that develops, produces, and sells waste-based building elements and interiors at scale. a:gain has developed an innovative method for upcycling Carlsberg's platic.

The Ocean OC2 outdoor series is made from upcycled plastic waste from Carlsbergs used beer kegs. One chair contains 1400g of plastic waste, equal to four plastic beer kegs.

Dennie Ditzel, daughter of Joergen og Nanna Ditzel, says:

"Getting a circular variant of the classic design has been a great wish for us. With this collaboration we get, not only, a green variant but a Carlsberg green, that can adorn the terrace in front of the beautiful headquarters next to brewer Carl Jacobsen's old garden. I think my parents would appreciate that."

Discarded beer kegs
In collaboration with one of the leading breweries in the world, Danish Carlsberg, Mater is using their used beer kegs to mould into the slats of the seats of the Ocean OC2 Collection.

CO2 Footprint

At Mater, we believe in the importance of transparency. By doing Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) on our furniture, we can analyse the total climate emission for each of our product’s lifespan.

An OC2 seat made from upcycled beer kegs from Carlsberg saves up to 53% in CO2 emissions compared to a similar made of plastic , which corresponds to approximately three kilos less CO2.

Repair for long lasting

Good products, are made to be used. To give the products the longest possible life, we want to make it easy for you to repair them yourself.

 Steel

Our Steel is made from 20% recycled steel with a gun metal finish. Steel is a strong and light material that can be processed in unlimited ways.

The slats of the chair is made from discarded beer kegs mixed with recycled hard plastic.

Design
Jørgen & Nanna Ditzel ’ DK

Nanna og Jørgen Ditzel were born in respectively 1923 and 1921. They meet each other at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, where they both were students.
In 1946 they established their own design studio. The period from 1946 to 1961, when Jørgen passed away was very productive for the young couple. After Jørgens death in 1961 Nanna continued their joint project alone. Many new things were designed the following years, until her death in 2005.
